SAGUARO CAMERA CLUB
The Saguaro Camera Club was established in 1956 in the eastern valley of Phoenix, Arizona making it one of the oldest photography clubs in the region. As was the case with many other camera clubs across the country, Saguaro CC originated as a slide club but has made a smooth transition to digital imaging. Throughout its history, Saguaro CC has been an active member in the Photographic Society of America (PSA) with many of its past and present members occupying important offices and administrative positions in that international organization. Our club is a longtime member of the Arizona Camera Club Council (ACCC) where our members compete in the Fall and Winter Roundups. Saguaro CC also is one of the sponsors of the Grand Canyon Circuit. Our members can participate in the GCC (Fall and/or Winter Circuits) at a 50% discount; you do not need to be a PSA member to participate.
Saguaro CC members have embraced digital photography and made the transition from the darkroom while taking full advantage of the technological advances in computer processing. Our members are medium to advanced photographers and many compete successfully at the local, national and international levels receiving many meritorious and prestigious awards for their photographic skills and talents.
Our membership is largely seasonal with our meeting and competition year split in two (January-April and October-December). We meet in the Mesa Fire Station, 360 E First St., Mesa, Arizona on the 2nd and 4th Thursdays of the month from 6:30 to 9:30PM. There is some variation around the Thanksgiving and Christmas Holidays (see Calendar for details). Our Competition Night is the first monthly meeting with two competitions; one Open and one Thematic. These competitions are judged by three in-house or outside judges. Members compete in three levels: Diamond, Gold and Silver. Members can join the club at either the Silver or Gold level, but must earn the Diamond level through a consistently high level of performance.
Our second monthly meeting is our Program Night and includes a social hour followed by a topical presentation provided by a club member or an invited speaker. We have periodic organized field trips or shoots and workshops during our meeting months. In the summer months, our members scatter to all corners of the globe to capture remarkable images.
Guests are welcome at our meetings, but must be paid members to compete in our competitions. Annual dues are: $20 single member and $30 couple/partner membership. New members who join in October receive full membership through the following year. Please see Membership Information page for details on how to become a member of the Saguaro Camera Club.
